We’re now in March, the month of the Aquamarine and International Women’s Day! To celebrate, I’m hosting a giveaway of a $200 gift card! To learn more about the giveaway and aquamarines, keep reading below!
Aquamarine, as the name suggests, is a sea blue, reminiscent of the sparkle in the surf on a warm summer day. The stone is thought to originate from sirens and is a symbol of Poseidon, the Ancient Greek God of the Sea. Sailors saw it as a talisman of protection, whereas present day users see Aquamarine as a soothing and healing element, one that brings stress-relief and tranquillity. Like water, the Aquamarine brings a sense of fluidity to life, calming one’s thoughts and encouraging growth.
International Women’s Day is an annual event on March 8th to celebrate the achievements of women. Serpent and the Swan is very proudly women-owned and run. Although jewellery created by smaller labels can be very women-oriented, larger fashion houses and jewellery businesses are almost exclusively controlled by men and marketed towards women. I believe that jewellery should be all-inclusive and transcend stereotypes of traditional jewellery and belief systems.
This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is Break the Bias- how do we call out the bias and the stereotypes being placed on women, as we move towards better equality. For my giveaway, all you have to do is answer one simple question-Who is a woman that embodies strength and breaks stereotypes to you, and why?
Some women that embody strength for me include Michelle Obama, my dog Frida’s namesake, Frida Kahlo, Jacinda Ardern, Sanna Marin, Laverne Cox, and recent Australian of the Year Grace Tame.
