Swan Story 003

Meet the swan Lauri Smith, artist, sculptor, who conjures dreams and the subconscious mind into art.
She also happens to be my sister!

What does your Serpent & the Swan piece mean to you?

My Serpent & the Swan pieces are very special to me, the symbology and meaning of each unique piece represents deeper meanings that are sentimental to me. They are handcrafted with love and have become apart of my essential wears.

What inspires or motivates you in work and life?

I am a sculpture artist inspired by surrealism and hyperrealism. My background in special effects props and prosthetics has influenced my process of sculpting, molding and casting and my use of materials such as resins, stone and silicones.

My inspiration usually comes from my subconscious imagination, my bizarre and vivid dreams (or should I say mostly nightmares). They are a constant inspiration for my work. Representing the subconscious mind and its connection to reality and all things. My art motivates me everyday. I live for the little inspirations that can turn into a body or work or an exciting idea :)

Who are your favourite artists?

My favourite artist is Leonora Carrington. She is a surreal artist from the 1940s (any many decades after). Her work and inspirations continues to inspire me.

What do you think is the most important thing(s) in your life?

My beautiful hairy babies Millie & Ren, griffon brussels pups. Art. Family.
