Purple gems and crystals have been very popular lately and especially on my workbench here at the studio! Between launching my Limited Edition Purple Wild-at-Heart Fob Necklace and a recent custom ring, I thought I’d take a deep dive into the meanings behind the colour and some of my recent pieces!
The newest to the Wild-at-Heart Fob colour family, the Purple crystal is a deep yet luminescent purple, sparking in the light. Purple is a traditional colour for royalty, said to bring healing powers and wisdom to the wearer. The colour of peace, the purple crystal brings clarity and a sense of mystery, perfect for those who believe in the supernatural and spirituality. Purple is a mixture of red and blue, which represent fire and water, passion and emotion, action and thought.
Another purple gem I’ve been using lately is the Lavender Sapphire, one of the rarest types of sapphires. Not to be confused with amethysts, Lavender Sapphires are paler in comparison and have the ability to change colour depending on the light surrounding it.
I first learned about Lavender Sapphires while making a custom ring for Kat, who wanted a recreation of her grandmother’s lost heirloom ring that has been passed down for generations. She wanted a modern twist to the ring and approached me with an old photo, an idea, and we soon discussed how this ring could be made to suit her better while retaining elements of her grandmother’s ring. To add a personal touch, Kat asked for a birthstone, but wasn’t a fan of the dark blue Sapphire of September. That same weekend, while shopping for gems, I laid eyes on the most beautiful gems I’ve ever seen- the Lavender Sapphire that are now set in the modern yet traditional custom ring pictured here.
