December is here, which means the holidays are here as well! Happy Birthday to all those born in December and Happy Holidays from Serpent and the Swan in December, the month of the unique Tanzanite, a stone only found in the hills at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
Tanzanite is said to have a calming presence to soothe the within, but is also said to bring higher thought, clarity, and prosperity. The gemstone is also symbolic of dignity and longevity, but also a beauty in rarity because of its nature. Tanzanite is also thought to open your Throat Chakra, encouraging a higher mind and better communication.
Only discovered in the 1960s, the stone was originally thought to be a variant of a sapphire or peridot, but after more research, it was declared a new discovery. Named for its place of origin, the stone is usually a deep blue, but depending on the rotation of the stone, it could also be violet or even burgundy! This feature is rare in gemstones, and since it can only be sourced in a very specific part of Tanzania, it makes it one of the rarest gemstones in the world.
Tanzanites are an elegant, unique alternative sapphire and come in a variety of shades.
