Happy Friday the 13th! Although many claim that the day is an event of bad luck, we here at Serpent and the Swan see it as a good omen and good luck.
There are lots of theories behind the specific day, especially in association with the number 13, tracing back from the Bible to the American Civil War. However, the biggest connection to the unlucky day itself was popularised by the 1980 slasher filmFriday the Thirteenth.
Some even fear the arrival of the date and suffer from paraskevidekatriaphobia, but in reality, it is nothing to fear. In fact, It just might as well be a good omen. For us, Friday the 13th is a day to celebrate the darkness that balances the world and a day of good fortune.
This year’s Friday the 13th is also in the 7th month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, also known as the Ghost Month. Similar to the Mexican festival the Day of the Dead, Ghosts return to the mortal world and roam free, seeking offerings and prayers from their descendants.
