Happy October, and Happy Birthday to all the October Swans! October is the month of one of my all time fav gems the gorgeous Opal. Each Opal reflects light slightly differently, with different brightnesses and base hues, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery.
Also known as the “Eye Stone,” the Opal Symbolises symbolises loyalty, freedom and independence, but is also often seen as a symbol of luck and happiness. Due to its rare nature outside of Australia, Opals were only adorned by royalty because it was impossible to find. Precious opals contain iridescence, making it reflect like rainbows in lightning or a peculiar cloud phenomenon like cloud iridescence, where hues paint the clouds like the colours in a milky opal. For me, each Opal reminds me of the Universe.
Not only are opals known for their colour, they also come in a wide variety of types- from the milk opals, to boulder opals like the one I wear daily (pic of the your burn my heart opal please!), to black and fire opals that are often seen in my work. The vibrancy of the gem is unmatched, leading to a truly diverse variety of colours and meaning.
Opals are plentiful in my pieces, sourcing locally here in Australia, so if there’s a specific type you’re looking for, let me know! The national gemstone, Opals are most dominant in Australia, sourcing more than 95% of the world’s supply of opals. Opals stand out in a piece, bringing a bold or subtle sense of colour in your jewellery box, depending on what you pick! Check out my Opal Love page for more!
Again, Happy Birthday to those born in October, and happy end of lockdown!
Stay safe & Much love, x Hayley x
