OUR STONES

The only gem that grows.

A pearl is not dug up. It grows inside a living oyster, one layer of nacre over another, until there is a pearl. No cutting. No polishing. It comes out finished.

Australian South Sea. From Broome, from Regent Pearls.

Our pearls are Australian South Sea pearls, grown off Broome by the silver-lipped oyster, the largest pearl oyster there is, and supplied to us by Regent Pearls. Thick nacre. Deep lustre. A tiny fraction of the world's pearls, and the ones we think are worth setting.

No two grow the same, so no two pieces are the same. You are not getting one of a matched set. You are getting the one that grew.

Clean water, or no pearl.

Pearl oysters are filter-feeders. In dirty water they do not thrive, and the pearl shows it. So a pearl farmer's first job is looking after the water. It is one of the few ways of getting a gem that depends on caring for a place rather than digging it up.

Australia's wild silver-lipped pearl oyster fishery was the first gem fishery in the world certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council. That is the water ours come from.

Set in solid gold and silver. Never plated.

We set every pearl by hand into solid Australian gold or sterling silver. No plating, so nothing to wear through. The setting lasts as long as the pearl, which is a lifetime if you treat it right.

Last on, first off.

Pearls are organic and soft. Perfume, hairspray and cosmetics dull them, so put your pearls on last and take them off first. Wipe them with a soft, damp cloth after wearing. Store them away from harder jewellery that can scratch them. Do that and they get lovelier with age.

Pearls, answered.
