Our coloured stones are sourced from small suppliers who fossick across Australia — searching by hand, with simple tools, the way it's been done for generations. It's slow, small-scale work, and it means every stone can be traced to the land and the people who found it.
Fossicking is the small-scale search for gems using hand tools alone — a pick, a sieve, a patient eye — no heavy machinery, and very little disturbance to the ground. It's about as low-impact as gem-getting comes, and it keeps a real connection between the stone and its source. When only a handful of hands have touched a gem before it reaches ours, its story stays honest.
Australia is one of the world's great sources of coloured stone — especially sapphire, from the gemfields of central Queensland and the New England region of New South Wales. Beyond the classic blues, our ground yields golden yellows and rare parti-coloured sapphires, split between two or three tones in a single stone: a signature that's unmistakably Australian.
Wearing your birthstone is a quiet way to carry a piece of yourself. Each month has its stone, and each stone its own lore — qualities it's been traditionally associated with, passed down through centuries of storytelling.
