September is here, which means it is finally time for Spring here in Australia! Happiest of birthdays to those born in September, the month of the Sapphire, notably coming in blue hues but actually come in a variety of colours.
Sapphires represent loyalty, tranquility, and longevity, often worn by and is a symbol of nobility and royalty. As a birthstone, the gem represents sincerity, health and faithfulness.Ancient Greeks also recognised blue sapphires as a token of protection to ward off evil spirits.
Throughout this journal you would’ve read about many different types of sapphires, from my limited edition Mother’s Day Pink Sapphire padlocks to Medhi’s parti sapphire engagement ring, but did you know that Sapphires can also be purple, orange, or even yellow? Like the parti sapphire, some are even bi-coloured within the stone, or stars in them due to a characteristic called asterism!
Looking for a truly special birthday gift? Read my isolation gift guide here and pair with an Australian Blue Sapphire, sourced locally, ethically, and sustainably! The Australian variation is thought to have deeper, richer blue hues to create a stark contrast in all birthstone jewellery, especially as the eyes for the serpent in my Serpent Eternity Cuff .
Happy birthday to all that are born in September!
Lots of love x Hayley x Serpent & the Swan x
