Custom work is one of my favourite parts of running a jewellery label because not only am I involved in designing beautiful pieces, I also get to hear the stories behind the piece! Jewellery is powerful medium to express emotion, and a token of memories, and I feel honoured to have been a part of the story.
Olympic Ring
A fellow creative that also worked at Precinct 75, Clementine, recently asked me to help commemorate an important event in her life through the creation of a custom ring. The Olympic Rings, to be exact, made in 9k Gold and curved around the finger for a snug fit. Why? Because she was a former Olympic swimmer for Australia AND World Record Holder at the Sydney 2000 Olympics! The rings are a symbol of international collaboration and unity, as well as each of the habitable continents around the globe. Now a visual artist and sculptor, Clementine and I met while I was taking Frida out for a walk and I even used some of her pieces in a photo shoot. Thank you for entrusting me with making something so important to you!
Bead Set Birthstone Ring
Another one of my favourite Custom pieces from the last couple of weeks definitely has to be the Custom Bead Set Birthstone Ring, with 5 birthstones set into a rounded edge 9k Gold Ring. Her partner had it custom made for her birthday to represent their family, with birthstones representing the couple, their two children and their fur baby, a beautiful Weimaraner named Claude. Set with two emeralds, an opal, a ruby and aquamarine, I love how the ring turned out and how gorgeous all the gems look together in a row.
Slither Hair Clip
Finally, something out of my usual repertoire- a customer wanted a hair clip variation of the Serpent Ear Climber but instead in her hair for her wedding. She already had a pair of Cut your Heart Out Earrings and wanted something to match, so we looked into design inspiration and got to work. We went through a bunch of different designs shown below and finally got it made in Sterling Silver, a delicate headpiece and the ‘Something New’ for the wedding. Although this piece was a bit of a challenge and required a lot of workshopping, this was a great experience and I loved being able to look at different ways to develop designs into something new. Congratulations Brooke!
