Ours are Australian South Sea pearls, grown inside living silver-lipped oysters off Broome in Western Australia and set by hand in Sydney into solid 9ct gold and sterling silver. A pearl is not mined or cut. It forms one layer of nacre at a time and comes out of the shell finished, which is why no two are the same shape. Pearl farming depends on clean water, so the fishery is a good indicator of the sea it sits in. Put pearls on last and take them off first. More on our Australian pearls page.
