HAIR AND TEETH INTO JEWELLERY

Something of theirs, kept in solid metal.

We seal a lock of hair — or set a tooth — into a piece of our jewellery. The piece is solid 9ct gold or sterling silver all the way through, never plated, and it's made to order by hand in our studio in Stanmore, Sydney. Solid metal doesn't wear out, so this is a piece to be handed on rather than replaced. One small lock of hair is enough — whatever we don't use comes back to you with the finished piece.

One lock of hair. Two to four weeks.

Order the piece and choose your metal and size. Put the lock of hair in a ziplock bag or a small airtight container and post it to us: Serpent & the Swan, Studio 14, 43-53 Bridge Road, Stanmore NSW 2048.

We set the hair into the piece and seal it in by hand. Hair pendants and rings are finished two to four weeks after the hair arrives. Any hair we don't use is returned with your order.

Hair in hearts and signets. Teeth in rings and pendants.

For hair: heart pendants, heart rings, a bleeding-heart ring and a signet, each with a setting that holds the lock. Leave it clear so the hair shows, or choose a colour of enamel behind it.

For teeth: a signet with the tooth set on top, a ribbon ring that holds two baby teeth, a wisdom-tooth ring and a pendant that caps the tooth in metal. Every ring is made in your size. Every necklace comes on a 45cm chain. Each piece arrives in a heart-shaped tin. Sterling silver, or solid 9ct yellow, rose or white gold.

Every piece in the Serpent & the Swan collection is devotedly handmade in my studio in Sydney.

My philosophy lies within circular consumption, ethically sourced solid and natural materials I work with. Making bespoke heirloom pieces to be worn everyday, to stand the test of time, to be loved.

Made to be kept, not replaced.

Plated jewellery is base metal under a skin of gold a few microns thick. It wears through. Ours is solid 9ct gold or sterling silver from surface to core, so there's nothing to wear off. The piece can be polished, repaired and resized for generations — the same piece, still being worn long after all of us.

Our gold is 100% Australian, refined in Sydney by Palloys, and alloyed with copper, silver and zinc. No nickel. Our silver is sterling: 92.5% silver. Both are what we work in every day. A piece like this gets made once — so it's made to outlast the hands that made it, and the hands it was made for.

Keepsake jewellery, answered.
